Our History
Sure Start Darlaston started life as a new Sure Start project in May 2003. With just two staff the project was based in Kings Hill and began work by talking to local families and finding out about their thoughts, ideas and ideals for their local community.
With a staff of five people, the project moved to the Rubery Owen Building in Booth Street and began to make links with The Salvation Army, Rough Hay's Tick Tock Club, Moxley People's Centre and other local projects. We then took on a team of childcare and family support staff and so began to offer home visits and specialist support for families.
The project then began work at Darlaston Multi-Purpose Centre, offering registered childcare and support groups along with opportunities to volunteer or receive training.
After much anticipation, the project moved into Ilmington House; a specially developed Children's Centre for Darlaston and Moxley. Sure Start Darlaston now have nearly 40 staff and 10 volunteers aiming to create even more opportunities and services for local families. We hope the project will continue to develop and that you will continue to tell us what we are doing right or wrong at our 'Hub' sessions.
